Iteration 13 — C2: Cross-Program Triangulation

Outcome: TRIANGULATION-INVARIANT-FOUND (one genuine shared invariant), but VERDICT-NEUTRAL — triangulation re-confirms the encode screen rather than breaking it. Frame/synthesis audit, NOT a carrier re-attack. Carrier count FIVE; no hedge moves; no new IDs.

The question

Do the major unification programs share any ROBUST structural feature that any final theory must satisfy, independent of which program is right — and does it bear on the encode-not-generate / not-forecastable verdict?

Fundamental-vs-derived map (web-verified 2024-2026)

  • String / AdS-CFT: boundary CFT fundamental; bulk metric + graviton emergent (metric-from-information). SPECULATIVE as nature
  • Asymptotic safety: metric stays an ordinary QFT field; UV (Reuter) fixed point fundamental; NO emergence; signature installed by hand. OPEN
  • Causal sets: discrete Lorentzian partial order fundamental; continuum metric emergent (order+number=geometry). OPEN
  • LQG / spin foams: quantized discrete geometry fundamental; continuum emergent as semiclassical limit. OPEN
  • Entanglement / it-from-qubit (Program A): algebra+state (modular) fundamental; geometry encoded, ENCODES-not-GENERATES (standing verdict). SPECULATIVE

The one genuine shared invariant: area law S=A/4G

Referee-survivable: multiply-derived, web-verified, accepted as a consistency testbench by all five programs (Strominger-Vafa; LQG horizon punctures; causal-set element count; Ryu-Takayanagi; plus a general canonical-quantization statement). But verdict-neutral by construction: a retrodiction of a semiclassical result that every program AND every geometry-first description reproduces, so it is screen-passing (HYP-ENCODING-SCREEN), not class-separating. It is the entropy-side shadow of the missing reverse-Weinberg-Witten observable — re-deriving, from the program-comparison direction, the iter-9 identity reverse-WW = carrier.

Candidate invariants that FAIL the referee (shared vocabulary / open conjecture)

  • UV dimensional reduction d_s to 2: method-dependent; in causal sets the random-walk spectral dimension INCREASES at short scales — opposite sign. Shared label, different computations.
  • Holographic finiteness of information: genuine inside the string/swampland/it-from-qubit camp, but asymptotic safety conflicts with holography + statistical BH entropy (arXiv:2502.12290). Camp-local.
  • Background independence: central for LQG/causal sets/CDT; unrealized in string/M-theory. Shared open problem.
  • Geometry-is-emergent: fractures into continuum-from-discreteness vs metric-from-information (different substrates), with asymptotic safety dissenting. Ontological mood.

Common failure mode: a WORD is shared while content/substrate/commitment differs or is contested. A shared vocabulary is not a shared prediction; a popular conjecture is not an established constraint.

Does it bear on the verdict? No — and why

  1. The shared ontological leaning SUPPORTS Program A's ontology but changes nothing: ontological agreement is exactly what the encode screen concedes and neutralizes (all programs encode the same semiclassical EFT — all reproduce S=A/4, GR-as-EFT, the SM where they reach it), so it buys no distinguishing observable. Triangulation lands INSIDE the screen.
  2. The one genuine invariant is screen-passing, not class-separating: a triangulation-derived test would discriminate only if realizable without a fundamental metric (the reverse-WW property), and the area law is not one (defined ON the horizon geometry). No such cross-program observable exists as of 2026-06.
  3. Experimental corroboration: BMV/QGEM tests the gate, cannot settle quantization, does not distinguish string vs loop; standard Planck-scale arguments are individually weak (arXiv:2501.07614).

Net: a real positive (the area-law invariant) and a real negative (no class-separating shared prediction) together TIGHTEN the encode-not-generate / not-forecastable verdict rather than moving it.

Guardrails honored

No carrier re-attack; count stays FIVE; no sixth route. No hedge/grade/condition movement (OP-46 stays -R6; section-7 no-test corollary keeps its grade and condition). No new registry IDs. Verdict unchanged (12th consecutive; terminal analytical saturation re-confirmed from the frame side).

Honest residue

The general canonical-quantization-satisfies-S=A/4 claim is itself conditional (low-T, large-area, a large class of dynamics) — which only strengthens the point that even the one invariant is a semiclassical-regime consistency statement, not a Planck-regime prediction. The AS-vs-swampland conflict is one defensible reading (single conceptual-assessment paper), not consensus; either reading supports the camp-local conclusion. A class-separating shared prediction could exist unnoticed; the claim is the conservative literature-state one (none on the table), a literature fact not a proven impossibility.

C2 Referee — Cross-Program Triangulation (iteration 13)

Default stance: REFUTE. Outcome: UPHELD-WITH-CORRECTION. The finder's central result survives an adversarial read. Two citation defects require binding repair; neither is verdict-bearing.

What I checked and what held

I web-verified every program-status / experimental / literature claim that carries weight. The structural spine is sound and, more importantly, conservative — it does the rare correct thing of finding a positive (one genuine shared invariant) and immediately neutralizing it rather than inflating it into "convergence."

  1. The AS-vs-swampland conflict (arXiv:2502.12290) — verified VERBATIM. All three load-bearing directional sentences are present in the v3 full text (topology change "structurally impossible" in strict ASQG; "cannot reproduce the non-localizable super-exponential density of black-hole microstates"; "Relinquishing topology change requires abandoning holography as well, since the latter implies the former"). The finder did NOT over-read the abstract — it sourced the actual claims, and correctly self-flagged that this is one conceptual-assessment paper, not consensus. This is exactly the discipline the anti-crank protocol demands.

  2. The dimensional-reduction failure (arXiv:1311.2530 + Carlip arXiv:1904.04379) — verified. The sharpest sub-claim — that "d_s→2" is a shared label over different and sometimes opposite-sign computations, because causal-set random-walk spectral dimension INCREASES at short scales while only the non-local-d'Alembertian construction reduces to 2 — is precisely right and triple-sourced. This is the finder's best refutation of a tempting false invariant, and it holds.

  3. The Planck-scale weakness (arXiv:2501.07614, Jacobs) and the BMV gate-only result (arXiv:2208.09489, Martin-Martinez-Perche) — titles/authors/core claims verified.

The refutation attempts that did NOT land (i.e. the finder was right)

  • Is the "area law" invariant being smuggled in as a pseudo-convergence? No. The finder pre-empts this: it grades the area law as a retrodiction of a semiclassical (QFT-in-curved-spacetime + GR) result every program AND every geometry-first description must reproduce, hence screen-passing, not class-separating. This is the correct conservative reading and is the entropy-side restatement of HYP-ENCODING-SCREEN. A shared invariant that even a geometry-FIRST description reproduces cannot separate Program A from its negation — so it is verdict-neutral by construction. I tried to find a class-separating residue in it and could not; the area law is defined ON the horizon geometry, so it is not a reverse-Weinberg-Witten observable. The finder's identification of this with the iter-9 reverse-WW ≡ carrier identity, re-derived from the program-comparison direction, is a legitimate (and pleasingly independent) cross-check, not a new lever.

  • Is "geometry is emergent" being upgraded to a shared prediction? No — the finder explicitly fractures it into continuum-from-discreteness (LQG/causal sets/CDT) vs metric-from-information (string/holography/it-from-qubit), with asymptotic safety dissenting outright, and labels it an "ontological mood," not an invariant. Correct.

  • Is the carrier being re-attacked or the count moved? No. Count stays FIVE; no sixth route; no hedge motion. Guardrails honored by inspection.

The two binding corrections (reference apparatus only)

  • BC-1: the clause "does not distinguish string from loop" is hung on arXiv:2208.09489, which does not argue it. True claim, wrong citation — detach or re-source.
  • BC-2: arXiv:1311.2530 is mis-cited as "CQG 36, 235013 (2019)"; correct is CQG 31, 125007 (2014). The arXiv ID and content are right; the journal volume/page/year are fabricated and must be fixed.

Both are precision repairs. Per the anti-crank protocol I flag them as defects, but they touch no verdict-bearing claim — the structural conclusion stands on the verbatim-verified 2502.12290 and the triple-sourced spectral-dimension result, neither of which is affected.

Calibration (the C3-style check)

The estimate neither overclaims nor underclaims. It does NOT inflate ontological agreement into "triangulation/convergence" (the standard crank move here would be "five programs all say geometry is emergent, therefore Program A is favored" — explicitly refused, because agreement-in-ontology lands INSIDE the encode screen and buys no distinguishing observable). It does NOT underclaim the real positive (the area-law invariant is genuinely referee-survivable and is reported as such). The "no class-separating shared prediction exists as of 2026-06" claim is correctly presented as a literature-state fact, not a proven impossibility (§7 residue). The single-paper AS-swampland reading and the conditional canonical-quantization area-law statement are both presented AS hedged. This is calibrated.

Verdict

UPHELD-WITH-CORRECTION. Outcome TRIANGULATION-INVARIANT-FOUND stands as verdict-NEUTRAL: one referee-survivable shared invariant (the area law), which is screen-passing not class-separating, so triangulation re-confirms encode-not-generate / not-forecastable rather than moving it. 12th consecutive iteration at the standing verdict; terminal saturation re-confirmed from the frame side. Carrier count FIVE; OP-46 hedge unchanged in grade and condition; no new registry IDs. Apply BC-1 and BC-2 before filing the note; the optional UNIFYING_PRINCIPLES §4 one-liner is permissible but not required.
